#6 Women’s Tennis Eases Past Connecticut College 7-0

The sixth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team opened NESCAC action on Saturday with a 7-0 sweep of Connecticut College.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury quickly grabbed the doubles point to go up 1-0. The tandem of Ren Barton and Anna Lardner cruised to a 6-0 victory at #2, while Lulu Wu and Gusty Beveridge claimed a 6-4 win at the top spot to clinch the point.
  • The team of Elsie Van Wieren and Diya Pachamuthu slipped past their opponent in the third slot by a 7-5 tally.
  • Van Wieren pushed the Panther lead to a pair (2-0) with a straight-set sweep (6-1, 6-0) at #1 to begin singles' play.
  • Barton claimed the third point of the match, earning a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the third spot.
  • Elizabeth Doak clinched the match with her 6-1, 6-2 decision over Sydney Concepcion at #6.
  • In the fourth slot, Charlotte McCann secured a sweep (6-2, 6-1) against Asahi Goods to make the score 5-0.
  • Pachamuthu secured the sixth point of the match via a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #5 for a 6-0 lead.
  • In the final match of the day, Lardner eased past Mary Ella Prendergast in the second position (6-2, 6-0) to clinch the 7-0 score.
NOTES
  • Pachamuthu and Barton each upped their winning streaks in singles to four consecutive matches. Barton tallied her team-leading 12th individual triumph.
  • McCann's win is her 35th as a Panther.
  • Middlebury and the Camels met for the 17th time, with the Panthers claiming each match.
Middlebury closes its road weekend on Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. showdown at #4 Wesleyan.
