The Middlebury men's track and field wrapped up its spring trip to California on Friday at the Mangrum Invitational. The event was hosted by Cal State San Marcos and featured institutions from the three NCAA divisions, junior colleges, the NAIA and unattached competitors.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Nate Gardner highlighted the meet when he won the 400-meter hurdles. The Panther crossed the line with a victorious time of 53.34 seconds, beating the College of the Canyons' Antonio Moore by three-tenths of a second. Â
- In the meet's longest race, Nathan Szubin earned silver in the 10,000 with a clocking of 31:41.41. Also posting a top-five showing in the event was Felix Rogovin in fifth place at 32:12.46.Â
- Later in the day, Adam Ferreira claimed runner-up honors in the javelin, hurling the implement to a distance of 58.63 meters. Teammate Sam Thompson was fifth at 49.61m.
- Third-place efforts came from Donnell Harvey Jr. in the 100 (10.85) and Lachlan Bishop during the 800 (1:54.56). In the 3,000 steeplechase, Ian Larkin claimed bronze (9:26.86), while Solomon McDow crossed the line one spot behind with a time of 9:28.25.
- During the high jump, Toby Warmack cleared the bar at a collegiate-best height of 2.00m for third. Â
- Near the end of the invite, Benjamin Hughes recorded a time of 3:49.64 to finish fourth in the 1,500.
- The team of Emerson Kington, Wyatt Lawton, Cole Weihs and Joey Caspar raced in the 4x400 relay. The quartet claimed fourth with a combined effort of 3:16.54.
- Quinn Kennedy closed his trip in California with a fifth-place performance of 15.21 seconds in the 110 hurdles.Â
- Tony Wang rounded out the top-five competitors, hitting the sand at a distance of 13.60m for fifth in the triple jump.Â
NOTES
- Garnder's winning time in the 400 hurdles was a collegiate-best clocking by 1.26 seconds.
- In the 10,000, Rogovin clipped his personal-best time by 1.24 seconds.
- Warmack's high jump performance tied the program record set by Sam McGarrahan during last spring's NESCAC Championships.
- Ferreira bettered the distance that he posted during last week's UC Riverside Spring Classic by 1.12 meters.
- McDow shaved 11.07 seconds off his 3,000 steeplechase performance.
The Panthers are idle until April 5 when they travel to Massachusetts for the Amherst Spring Fling at 10:00 a.m.
