#16 Men’s Lacrosse Drops Contest To #1 Jumbos

The 16th-ranked Middlebury men's lacrosse team fell to top-ranked Tufts 17-7 on Saturday afternoon from Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Ethan O'Neill got the Jumbos on the board 19 seconds into the first quarter, finishing on the doorstep into the right panel. Jack Regnery tallied 53 seconds later with a wraparound bid for a 2-0 advantage.
  • Cooper DeMallie sliced the deficit in half with 12:38 showing on the clock, ripping a one-timer into the top-left corner.
  • A pair of goals four minutes apart by Garrett Kelly pushed the Tufts lead to 4-1.
  • Nick Marvin produced a great individual effort with 3:54 remaining, pinballing through a trio of defenders and rifling a left-handed shot into the bottom of the net. 
  • Three minutes later, Logan White pulled the hosts to within one (4-3). The Panther spun to his left and twirled an underhanded chance that tickled the left portion at the 1:29 mark.
  • The Jumbos regained the momentum, securing a two-goal edge 13 seconds later when Chase Beyer collected a loose ball at the top of the crease and deposited it.
  • Tufts manufactured the next 10 goals of the contest over the second and third quarters to make it 15-3. Beyer led the charge with four, while Brooks Hauser and Regnery had two apiece. 
  • The surge continued when Henry Tweedy bounced a shot past Middlebury goalie Hayden Kern 57 seconds into the final frame for a 16-3 advantage. 
  • The Panthers posted four of the game's final five goals, started by a jab step to the left and a rip from Misha Trupo with 11:15 left. Brendan Hickey added a pair of tallies, while DeMallie scored on a player-up opportunity for the final 17-7 score.  
NOTES
  • Peyton Jordan produced his first two assists in a Middlebury uniform during Saturday's fourth quarter.
  • Hickey finished with a career-best three points (2G, 1A).
  • DeMallie tallied his 99th and 100th career points.
  • Kern posted a season-high 17 saves during his 50 minutes between the pipes.
  • The programs met for the 64th matchup, with the navy and white holding a 33-30-1 advantage in the all-time series.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, traveling to New York for a 5:00 p.m. showdown at Hamilton.
