Anna McGrew started her second appearance on the national stage with a thrilling fourth-place and All-American finish in the 50-yard freestyle. Her effort paced the #25 Middlebury women's swimming and diving team on day one of the NCAA Championships contested in Indianapolis.
HIGHLIGHTS
- McGrew finished tied for third place in the morning's preliminary session, touching the wall in 22.77 seconds. During the evening's championship final, McGrew battled against the rest of the field, placing fourth with a clocking of 22.98 seconds.
- In her first swim at the NCAA meet, Isla Johnston competed with the best swimmers in the country in the 500 free. She finished in 28th place during the morning's preliminary session, stopping the clock at 5:02.52.
NOTES
- McGrew earned her second All-American accolade in the 50 free after swimming to 10th place in the event during her rookie campaign. She becomes the first Panther swimmer since Frances VanderMeer '20 to claim the honor in the event.
- The sophomore rewrote the program record in the event earlier this winter, touching the wall in 23.77 seconds at this season's NESCAC Championship.
Middlebury returns to the pool deck Thursday morning, with Johnston competing individually in the 200 free. She will also swim one of the legs in the 200 free relay along with
Hannah Baumgartner,
Lauren Jolley and McGrew.
