The #18 Middlebury men's lacrosse team held a 6-3 lead at the half, but eighth-ranked Babson tallied 11 goals over the final 30 minutes for a 14-9 victory on Sunday in Massachusetts.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Panther offense roared to life to begin the contest, as Logan White and Nick Marvin combined for three goals in less than two minutes to take a 3-0 lead with 10:47 remaining in the first quarter.
- Seamus Rooney got Babson on the board eight seconds later off a pass from Sam Sisk.
- The hosts cashed in on a player-up opportunity at the 7:19 mark, as Patrick McAleavey found the back of the net to make it 3-2.
- Gavin Romweber capped the first-quarter scoring with his ninth of the campaign for a 4-2 contest.
- Bennett Smith (12:58) and Camden Matthews (10:20) tested Hayden Kern to open the second quarter, but the Panther goalie denied both bids.
- With 8:18 remaining, Misha Trupo found nylon to extend the Middlebury lead to three (5-2).
- The Panthers took advantage of an extra-player chance with 3:29 remaining. Jackson Hanson fired a quick pass to Marvin, who scored his third of the contest, before the hosts answered 38 seconds later to make it 6-3 at the 2:51 mark.
- Trupo and DeMallie fired bids on target in the waning seconds of the first half, but Babson goalie Andrew Almquist made one stop while the other clanged off the post.
- The Beavers rallied, scoring three consecutive markers to knot the contest at 6-6 with 7:42 left in the third quarter.
- Will Ford and Ged Gengras tallied goals just over a minute apart to restore Middlebury's two-goal advantage at the 4:11 mark.
- The hosts did not flinch, as a goal by Rooney swelled into three straight to cap the third. Heading into the final 15 minutes, Babson held its first lead of the contest at 9-8.
- Romweber tied the game with 1:47 expired in the fourth stanza before the Beavers ripped off three goals to rebuild a 12-9 lead with 9:49 left.
- Matthews and Grayson Ambrosh scored the final two tallies to close out the five-goal victory.
NOTES
- Romweber (2G, 2A) and Marvin (3G) led the Panther attack.
- Kern hit double-digit saves for the fourth time this season, making 15 stops in the setback.
- The programs met for the ninth time.
