Caleb Smith secured his first national podium at the 2026 Indoor Championships, finishing eighth in the heptathlon.
Caleb Smith represented the Middlebury men's track and field team admirably on the final day of the NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing eighth in the heptathlon with a program-record 5,038 points.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Panther opened the day in the 60-meter hurdles, accumulating 813 points. He placed fourth in his heat and 12th overall with a clocking of 8.70 seconds.
- Smith finished in a tie for seventh during the pole vault. He cleared the 4.05m and 4.15m bars on his first attempt before bowing out on the ensuing height, matching the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Bryce Smith with 659 points.
- Smith's shot at landing on the podium came down to the 1,000. He emerged from the grueling event with a clocking of 2:56.57, trimming nearly five seconds off his personal record in the event to claim 14th place and All-American honors.
