Middlebury Competes at Tufts Invitational

Jed Nelson competed in two events for the Panthers.

The Middlebury men's track and field team traveled to Massachusetts for the Tufts Invitational. The squad earned two individual event titles and tallied 13 top-five finishes.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Donnell Harvey Jr. earned the 60-meter title. The Panther shaved 0.11 seconds off his preliminary time with a clocking of 6.84 seconds.
  • Middlebury's second top result came in the 1,000. Cameron Miles paced the field at 2:28.68, while teammates Nate Johnson (2:33.63) and Kieran McBride (2:34.89) were fifth and seventh.
  • In the 60 hurdles, Caleb Smith claimed silver, crossing the finish line at 8.53 seconds.
  • Emerson Kington paced Middlebury in the 400, earning second with a time of 50.60 seconds. Wyatt Lawton joined Kington in the top five, crossing the finish line in fourth place (50.82). Sebastian Pantzer (51.23) and Cole Weihs (51.26) were three-hundredths of a second apart to claim sixth and seventh.
  • The Panthers tallied three of the top-five spots in the triple jump. Jed Nelson hit the sand at 14.21 meters to earn second, while Tony Wang grabbed bronze with his best leap of 13.78m. Toby Warmack closed out the Middlebury contingent in fifth (13.56m).
  • Sam Spector had a toss of 15.24m for bronze in the weight throw, while Andreas Panagos finished eighth at 14.20m.
  • The Panthers earned three of the top-six places during the long jump. Smith led the way in fourth with a leap of 6.73m on his final attempt. Wang (6.49m) and Nelson (6.47m) were fifth and sixth, respectively.
  • Closing out the top-five placings was Benoit Skilton, who cleared 4.16m in the pole vault.
  • Ian Larkin (4:26.94) and Benjamin Prestes (8:33.07) placed seventh in the mile and 3,000, respectively.

The Panthers head back to Massachusetts for a two-meet weekend. A group of competitors will head to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday, followed by the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday.
