Men’s Track & Field Readies For Division III New England Championships

Donnell Harvey Jr. and Aidan Castanon are among the Panthers competing at the Division III New England Championships.
The Middlebury men's track and field team qualified numerous members for the Division III New England Championships, hosted by Tufts and the TRACK at New Balance. The combined events will be contested in Medford, beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m. and concluding on Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. start. Individual and relay events are set for a 9:00 a.m. start on Sunday at the TRACK.
 
ABOUT MIDDLEBURY
  • The Panthers have competed in each installment of the regional championship since 2000.
  • Middlebury has placed as high as fourth on four occasions, including its first top-four finish in seven seasons at the 2025 meet.
  • The squad also landed fourth-place showings in 2013, 2017 and 2018.
PANTHERS TO WATCH
  • Quinn Kennedy will represent the navy and white in the heptathlon. The Panther ranks third in the Mideast after amassing 4,621 points at the Middlebury Winter Classic.
  • Donnell Harvey Jr. and Aidan Castanon will compete in the 60-meter dash. Harvey Jr. owns the region's top time at 6.83 seconds, while Castanon lands in 10th (6.98 seconds).
  • Kennedy also qualified for the 60 hurdles, slotting third in the Mideast with a time of 8.32 seconds to sit just one-hundredth of a second behind Amherst's Keason Ky.
  • In the 400, Sebastian Pantzer (50.18) and Nate Gardner (50.18) rank in the top 25.
  • Harvey Jr. (22.10) and Gardner (22.40) also represent Middlebury with top-25 placings in the 200.
  • Cameron Miles is the lone Panther competing in the 1,000 for the second consecutive winter after a time of 2:26.66 at the Tufts Invitational.
  • The mile will feature Owen Johnson, who ranks eighth in the Mideast with a time of 4:12.19 from Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
  • Another navy and white group readies for the 3,000. Ethan Sholk (8:26.84), Benjamin Prestes (8:27.17) and Benjamin Hughes (8:27.35) secured top-20 placements, while Ian Larkin will make his regional debut in the meet (8:40.01).
  • The final distance event has Nathan Szubin and Felix Rogovin set to compete. Szubin's clocking of 14:52.61 at the Tufts Cupid Challenge stands in 14th, while Rogovin lands inside the top 25 with a time of 15:09.65.
  • Middlebury qualified a squad in each of the three relay events. The distance medley relay (DMR) crew of Miles, Emerson Kington, Joey Caspar and Hughes headlines the Mideast with a time of 9:56.24, leading the pack by 4.40 seconds. Ranking second regionally is the 4x400 relay quartet comprised of Kington, Caspar, Wyatt Lawton and Pantzer (3:18.99).
  • Toby Warmack spearheads the high jump group with a 2.02-meter leap at the Middlebury New England Small College Invitational (MNESCI). Drew McStay will also compete after recording a top-15 effort at the same meet (1.87m).
  • In the triple jump, Jed Nelson leads the Panthers. His program record of 14.21m stands as the Mideast's third-best mark. Tony Wang (13.78m) and Toby Warmack (13.58m) also qualified with top-15 placements.
  • Nelson (6.56m) and Wang (6.49m) will also vie for a crown in the long jump. Each Panther ranks inside the event's top 30.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is ranked fourth and St. Lawrence is 23rd in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rating Index. Several competing teams are also regionally ranked.
  • Amherst looks to defend its team title after amassing 109 points. MIT (92 points) and Tufts (82) rounded out the top three. Middlebury finished fourth last season with 70.33 points.
  • Eight individual champions return to the meet from last year, including Cody Pierce (200), Ben Davis (600) and Gavin Schmidt (shot put) of Amherst.
  • Other winners from a season ago include Ian Naff of Coast Guard (400), Williams' Vincent VanMaaren (pole vault), Hartford's Christopher Hergott (long jump) and Rhode Island College's Brandon Mota (weight throw).
