#17 Middlebury Falls In Heartbreaker to #13 Williams In NESCAC Quarters

Caleb Boateng battled back from an early deficit for a 3-1 triumph at #5.
The #17/sixth-seeded Middlebury men's squash team jumped ahead by a 2-0 score, but could not hold onto the lead as #13 Williams/third-seeded claimed five of the next six matches en route to a 5-4 victory in NESCAC Quarterfinal action on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers grabbed the momentum to open the match. Theo Kogan tallied a sweep from the sixth spot (11-6, 11-5, 11-2) against Dylan Scott, while  Gabe Feinstein posted a 3-0 victory (11-6, 11-9, 11-6) at the top slot over Nick Agger for a 2-0 lead.
  • Williams responded by earning a hard-fought five-game victory that lasted more than an hour at #8, followed by a sweep in the second position to knot the contest at 2-2. 
  • Nico Brown slipped past Anden Boulan at #7 in three (12-10, 11-8, 11-9) to give Middlebury a 3-2 edge.
  • The Ephs answered with three-straight triumphs. Alex Akbari (#3) claimed the first, third and fourth games in a 3-1 win, while Leonard Lee (#9) registered a sweep to give Williams a 4-3 advantage. Will Newton clinched the match with a win in the fourth position.
  • The final point came from Caleb Boateng in the middle of the ladder. The Panther rallied after dropping the opening game, outlasting Leighton Calhoun h by tallies of 7-11, 11-5, 11-7 and 11-9.
NOTES
  • Boateng pushed his winning streak to four with the triumph, while Brown secured his third in a row.
  • Williams and Middlebury squared off for the seventh time in the NESCAC Tournament.
The Panthers turn their attention to the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships to be held from March 5-8 at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.
