Men’s Hockey Downed By Williams

The Middlebury men's ice hockey team grabbed a 1-0 lead with 11:35 elapsed in Saturday's second period, but Williams recorded a pair of goals in the third period to seal a 2-1 decision from Chip Kenyon '85 Arena.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers looked to get on the scoreboard with 5:41 expired in the first period. Bobby May deked a defender at the blueline and lifted a wrist shot that Eph goalie Harrison Fogel smothered with his glove.
  • Middlebury had another great chance nearly two minutes later. Luc Malkhassian gained possession in the left circle and muscled his way to the front, sending a bid toward the right post. Fogel tracked the chance and blocked it with his shoulder.
  • Williams produced a quality look following a faceoff in the offensive zone with 8:11 showing on the clock. Rowan Heithoff secured the puck, firing an attempt toward the left portion of the net. Panther netminder Andrew Heinze slid and denied the bid with his blocker.
  • After a faceoff victory, Cole Semeniuk sniped a shot through traffic that Fogel stopped with his right pad with 17:52 elapsed.
  • Brady Welsch gave the visitors a final look with 1:21 left, but Heinze pushed to the top of his crease and thwarted the attempt with his blocker.
  • The Panthers kept the offensive pressure up in the zone, earning a power-play chance with 5:00 gone in the middle frame. Seconds into the extra-skater opportunity, Reece Brednich muscled a shot on the left post that Fogel denied.
  • Middlebury took the lead at the 11:35 mark. Michael Fairfax worked through defenders, firing a bid that the Eph netminder thwarted. May grabbed the puck at the top of the crease and tapped it to  Max Noll, who found the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage.
  • Williams had a look to knot the contest on the power play with three minutes left. Jake McManus gathered the bouncing puck in the right circle, ripping a shot that Heinze rose and steered out of harm's way.
  • The Ephs skated the puck into the zone with 4:20 expired in the third period. Connor Berg collected a pass at the left point and shot a knuckling attempt. Heinze tracked the shot and gloved it.
  • Williams tied the contest at the 6:33 mark when Ziv Denner-Chodirker ripped a wrister from between the circles that tucked under the crossbar.
  • Middlebury had a golden chance two minutes later with a trio of shots. The best bid came when Brednich tried to shovel in the puck from the top of the crease, but Fogel stuck his pad out to thwart it.
  • The Ephs took the lead at the 12:04 mark. Cycling the puck along the left boards, Wilson Farrow laced a shot that went bar down into the right side of the net for the 2-1 lead.
  • The Panthers pulled Heinze in favor of the extra skater with 1:55 remaining. Brednich had the best opportunity to deadlock the contest 12 seconds later. Fogel grabbed the rising bid to keep Middlebury off the board.
  • Williams nearly made it a two-goal contest with 25 ticks on the clock, but Malkhassian laid out near the crease to block Welsch's attempt.
  • Middlebury wasn't able to get a shot off in the waning seconds, resulting in the 2-1 decision.
