Middlebury huddles before a match earlier this season.
The 14th-ranked Middlebury women's squash team saw its 10-match winning streak come to an end with an 8-1 loss to #11 Tufts on Sunday in Medford.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Jumbos opened the match with sweeps at #3, #4 and #8, respectively, to secure the first three points.
- Tufts added 3-0 decisions at the top of the ladder from Vharsha Dinesh (11-5, 11-7, 11-2) and in the fifth slot by Anika Goyal (11-5, 11-4, 11-8) to clinch the match.
- Madeline Schwarz got the Panthers on the board, shaking off an 11-1 opening game loss to defeat Sejal Virk in four at the seventh spot.
- The hosts claimed a 3-0 result at #6 before the longest match of the day in the second position paired Aanvi Anand against Maria Arseniev. The two split the first four games before Arseniev closed out the battle with an 11-4 result in the decisive fifth.
- Anika Parr concluded the match with a 3-1 result (11-7, 12-10, 6-11, 11-3) over Izzy Ronda.
NOTES
- In the exhibition match, Sophie Calise grabbed the first two bouts en route to a four-game triumph (11-4, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9) over Mafi Pinot.
- The programs met for the 40th time with Middlebury holding a 28-12 lead in the all-time series.
The Panthers close out their regular season with a two-match slate beginning Saturday against #25 Connecticut College at 3:00 p.m. The contest will be hosted by Amherst.
