The top-ranked Middlebury men's soccer team used a first-half strike from
Dylan Payne and a career effort from goalkeeper
Leon Brody to secure a 1-1 draw with Wesleyan on Tuesday evening.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Colin Dugan looked to guide the navy and white to an early lead in the second minute, darting to a loose ball in the box and firing an attempt. Cardinal goalie Simon Rebstock slid to boot away the bid.
- The hosts were first to jostle the netting with 36:22 showing. Jacob Schindler dialed up a long ball from beyond midfield that took a leaping bounce in the center of the box. Brody jumped to deflect the dangerous hop off the crossbar, but Ford Cash deposited the rebound into the left corner for a 1-0 edge.
- Middlebury returned the favor with 21:04 played in the session. After a scrum in the box, JT Federman tapped the ball to Payne for a finish into the back panel, leveling the match at 1-1.
- Will Sawin looked to produce some magic with 22:00 to go in the half, connecting for a secondary header that narrowly missed over the crossbar.
- The high pace and energy continued, but quality opportunities waned late in the opening stanza.
- On a Wesleyan corner 3:32 into the second session, Will Short placed a header toward the left side of the goal. Brody followed the attempt through numerous players in the box and dove to his right to usher the ball out of play.
- Hamin Kim delivered a cross that nearly curled into the top-right corner in the 53rd minute. Rebstock stood tall and plucked the bending bid.
- Brody was tested and answered the call again with 28:37 remaining. Dylan Clack tapped a one-timer following a corner kick to the opposite post, but Brody halted his momentum and extended both gloves to deny the look.
- Dugan had a final chance to snap the deadlock with 86:11 expired, but his shot from the edge of the box was tipped by a defender and snagged by Rebstock to finalize the 1-1 draw.
