Moritz’s Giant Slalom Title Lifts Middlebury to Third Place at Dartmouth Carnival

Kjersti Moritz secured the second giant slalom title of her career in her first action with Middlebury this season.
In the first combined action of the campaign, the Panther ski teams logged a season-best third-place showing with 774 points at the Dartmouth Carnival. The University of Vermont won five of the eight disciplines to amass 974 points, while the Big Green claimed the other three to finish second (893 points).
 
ALPINE WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Kjersti Moritz made a triumphant return to the fold on Friday, posting a two-run time of 2:00.57 to secure her first giant slalom title of the season in her initial race.
  • Sophia Palmquist (2:03.86) and Sophia Tozzi (2:04.09) finished in 22nd and 25th places, respectively.
  • In the slalom, Tozzi headlined the Middlebury efforts in sixth at 1:46.58.
  • Kaite Fynn was 12th with a clocking of 1:47.21, while Palmquist secured 19th by crossing the finish line in 1:48.35.
ALPINE MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Nicholas Unkovskoy led the Panther men in the giant slalom, tying for sixth with a combined time of 1:57.06.
  • Sebastian Segre and Milan Novak also secured points. Segre completed each of his two runs in under a minute to finish 13th (1:57.74), while Novak's clocking of 1:58.16 was 15th on the leaderboard.
  • Julian Arthur paved the way on Saturday, claiming fifth with an overall time of 1:40.62.
  • Novak shaved three seconds off his first run to log a sub-50-second time, finishing ninth (1:41.42). Thomas Carnahan completed the scorers in 16th (1:42.46).
NORDIC WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Shea Brams earned another podium placement in Friday's 7.5K individual classic, crossing the line in 24:04.8 to finish third.
  • Sofia Scirica secured 12th place (24:56.9) and Mica Bodkins took 15th (25:05.5) to round out the day-one scorers.
  • In Saturday's 15K mass start, Scirica and Brams led the Panther women with 11th (46:37.7) and 12th-place efforts (46.38.3).
  • Bodkins finalized her squad's score with a time of 46:47.8 to place 15th.
NORDIC MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Nathan Doughty finished 2.3 seconds behind Friday's winner, claiming runner-up laurels with a clocking of 21:14.3 in the 7.5K event.
  • Finn Veit earned his second consecutive top-10 finish with a seventh-place time of 21:38.8. Mason Wheeler (22:04.2) landed in 16th on the leaderboard to finalize Friday's point-getting group.
  • Wheeler led the team in Saturday's 15K action, completing the race in 39:29.1 to slot in at fourth place.
  • Veit (40:01.9) narrowly missed the top 10 with an 11th-place outing, while Abrahm Geissinger (40:10.1) followed his teammate across the line to earn 12th.
NOTES
  • Moritz secured her second giant slalom title as a Panther after winning the discipline at the Middlebury Carnival last season.
  • Brams landed inside the top three for the fourth time this season.
  • Doughty picked up his first podium finish in the navy and white.
Middlebury returns to action at the University of Vermont Carnival, beginning on Friday from Stowe Mountain (alpine) and the Craftsbury Outdoor Center (nordic).
