Alpine Skiing Closes Out St. Lawrence Carnival With Fourth-Place Showing

Sophia Tozzi placed eighth in the slalom for the Panthers.

The Middlebury alpine ski team closed out the first carnival of the season at St. Lawrence with the slalom on Friday, finalizing a fourth-place showing with 749 points. Dartmouth claimed the top spot with 873 points, followed closely by the University of Vermont (869 points). The University of New Hampshire completed the podium with 762.5 points.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

  • The men's squad grabbed third in the standings with 93 points.
  • Rookie Julian Arthur led the charge for the Panthers, earning sixth with a two-run time of 1:27.81.
  • Also finishing inside the top 10 was Nicholas Unkovskoy. He completed his two trips down the mountain at 1:28.16, good for tenth.
  • Sebastian Segre clocked a 1:28.48 for the final scoring position in 16th place.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

  • During the women's portion of the competition, the Panthers tallied 87 points to claim fourth.
  • Sophia Tozzi posted a two-run time of 1:35.14 to earn eighth-place.
  • Finishing four spots behind was Sophia Palmquist. The rookie crossed the finish line at 1:35.57.
  • Kaite Fynn closed out the scoring for Middlebury, finishing 16th with a two-run clocking of 1:36.03.

NOTES

  • Arthur shaved 0.19 seconds off in his second run to secure his initial top-10 position as a Panther, while Unkovskoy earned his eighth finish of 10th or better in a Middlebury uniform.
  • Palmquist cut nearly a second during her second trip down the mountain to rise 12 spots.

The alpine program returns to competition for the two-day Dartmouth Carnival, beginning on Friday, January 30th.
