Nicholas Unkovskoy finished in fifth place during Thursday's giant slalom.
The Middlebury alpine ski team started its portion of the St. Lawrence Carnival with the giant slalom from Whiteface Mountain. After Thursday's action, Dartmouth leads the way with 646 points, followed closely by the University of Vermont (625 points) and the University of New Hampshire (574.5 points). The Panthers sit just behind in fourth place with 569 points.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- The Panther men amassed 108 points to earn a second-place finish in the first discipline.
- Nicholas Unkovskoy led three Middlebury skiers inside the top 11 slots, finishing with a combined time of 2:07.58 for fifth place.
- Sebastian Segre was two spots back, putting together a two-run clocking of 2:07.76.
- Completing the Panther scorers was Milan Novak, posting an 11th-place combined effort of 2:08.11.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- In women's action, the team posted a score of 98 to finish in third place, just three points behind UNH (101) and two behind Dartmouth (100).
- Sophia Tozzi headlined a group of five top-30 finishers, posting a two-run time of 2:12.46 to earn third place.
- Kaite Fynn also sped down the course over her two runs, claiming ninth place by crossing the line in 2:13.54.
- Rounding out the scoring efforts was Sara Paradis, tallying a 20th-place showing in 2:14.65.
NOTES
- Unkovskoy posted a blistering pass down the mountain of 1:04.02 on his last trip, good for the second-quickest time and vaulting him six spots in the final results. His top-five finish was the first of this winter and his fifth as a Panther.
- Tozzi garnered her second podium in a Middlebury uniform, both coming in the giant slalom after a second-place showing at the Williams Carnival two years ago. Her time on the second run was 0.11 seconds off the top spot. Â
- Fynn earned her fourth top-10 placement of her career.
The program wraps up action at the St. Lawrence Carnival on Friday with the slalom.
