The 16th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team shut out #25 Hamilton 9-0 on Tuesday from the Bostwick Family Squash Center.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Nico Brown and Naum Lekovic rolled to 3-0 victories in the sixth and seventh slots, respectively. Brown logged close wins in the second and third games against Cooper Jessop (11-3, 11-7, 11-8), while Lekovic carved out an 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 result against William Gianopulos.
- At the top of the ladder, David Zhao overcame a three-point loss in his first game to grab a 3-1 win (8-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9) over Jacob Shulman. Theo Kogan secured the fourth Panther point with a sweep of Lucas Walden in the fifth spot (11-3, 11-8, 11-6).
- Noah Lazar rallied from a 2-1 deficit by winning the fourth and fifth games 11-6 and 11-2, respectively, to snatch a 3-2 win over Arjun Ramdas at #9 to clinch the match.
- Aditya Kothari and Caleb Boateng finalized 3-1 triumphs in the second and fourth slots, respectively, securing the sixth and seventh points for Middlebury.
- Charlie Clifford outlasted Carter Furmanek in a four-game tilt at #8 (11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9).
- The final match of the contest pitted Kian Kardestuncer and Jacob Li. The players dualed for just under an hour in the third position, as Kardestuncer grabbed the final two games to secure the 3-2 decision (6-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-1, 11-7).
NOTES
- Arman Rao claimed a 3-0 win over James Merrill (11-8, 11-6, 11-8) in the exhibition match.
- The programs squared off for the 23rd time with the Panthers owning a 20-3 advantage in the series. The Panthers have won the last 19 meetings dating back to the 2009-10 campaign.
Middlebury closes its 10-match homestand by hosting #12 Williams on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The contest will also serve as the team's senior day.
