Men’s Hockey Snaps Norwich’s Five-Game Winning Streak With 3-2 Victory

Three unanswered goals in the second period helped spearhead the Middlebury men's hockey team in a 3-2 win over Norwich on Tuesday evening.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers earned the first power-play opportunity with 1:04 elapsed in the opening period. Tyler Wishart and Edward Moskowitz each had a shot on target stopped by Cadets' goalie Sami Molu.
  • After Middlebury netminder Conor Sullivan made his first save of the night via a bid from Owen Sclisizz, Norwich tallied an extra-skater chance at the 6:58 mark. The hosts fired five shots over two minutes, with the best bid coming off the stick of Colin Elliot with 8:36 elapsed to force a Sullivan save.
  • The Cadets grabbed the lead at the 14:12 mark. Nick Cordeiro found Nick Foster, who snuck the puck past Sullivan to make it 1-0.
  • Middlebury turned up the pressure after Norwich's goal. Jake Stevens and Ben Boren queued up consecutive shots 18 seconds apart, but Molu secured both saves.
  • The hosts nearly added to their lead with eight seconds left in the stanza on a shot from Devon Thibodeau. Sullivan stood his ground and made the stop to keep it 1-0 after 20 minutes.
  • Middlebury knotted the contest via a power-play tally just 1:13 into the second period off the stick of Luc Malkhassian, aided by Bobby May and Jackson Morehouse.
  • Cory Kashul and Matt Harvey blasted back-to-back bids at the 6:01 mark. Sullivan stonewalled both chances to keep Norwich off the board.
  • The Panthers cashed in another extra-skater goal with 8:28 expired off the stick of Moskowitz, aided again by May, to grab a 2-1 lead.
  • Middlebury stretched its lead 4:55 later. Jake Stevens forced a turnover and created a one-on-one opportunity against Molu. The rookie bested the netminder for a two-goal advantage.
  • Norwich cut the deficit to 3-2 on an extra skater tally by Colin Elliot with 3:59 left in the second stanza.
  • The hosts looked for the equalizer at the 4:46 mark of the final period, as a Nick Foster bid sparked four Cadet shots over 41 seconds. Sullivan made two stops, while Christian Wood and Morehouse tallied blocked shots.
  • Middlebury jumped on the power play with 10:42 expired. Stevens (11:06), James Schneid (11:57) and Morehouse (12:17) each tested their luck against Molu, but the netminder denied each chance.
  • Both sides traded extra-skater opportunities until the Cadets pulled Molu with 1:48 to go. The Panther defense stood its ground, not allowing a shot on target to escape with the one-goal triumph.
