#23 Women’s Swimming and Diving Cruises Past Springfield

Lauren Lin swam the second leg of the Panthers winning time in the 200 medley relay.

The 23rd-ranked Middlebury women's swimming and diving team won the first seven events of Saturday's action en route to a 219-76 victory over Springfield College.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers opened the meet by grabbing the top-two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Anna McGrew, Emma Hall, Mia Cuiffo and Grace Nadecki combined for a time of 1:50.14 to earn gold. Finishing three seconds behind was the quartet of Sage Huddleston, Lauren Lin, Avery Dollard and Lauren Jolley  (1:53.48).
  • Middlebury had 10 podium sweeps in the dual meet, headlined by identical finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with Hall winning both. She posted a clocking of 1:08.56 during the 100 and 2:29.08 in the 200. Lin and Emma Sellnow claimed second and third, respectively, during both events.
  • McGrew secured two event titles, starting with a time of 54.09 seconds in the 100 freestyle and 59.51 in the 100 backstroke.
  • The third multi-event victor was Maddy Smith. The rookie touched the wall at 25.60 in the 50 free and clocked a 1:00.73 during the 100 butterfly.
  • Isla Johnston was the final Panther to earn two crowns, claiming the 500 (5:17.18) and 1,000 free disciplines (10:40.90).
  • Hannah Baumgartner (1:59.01), Avery Dollard (2:12.41), Isabel Pentony (2:13.31) and Nadecki (2:15.62) rounded out the individual top finishers with victories in the 200 free, 200 fly, 200 back and 200 individual medley (IM).
  • Middlebury closed the competition with the two fastest times in the 200 free relay, separated by 1.5 seconds. McGrew, Baumgartner, Ciuffo and Jolley combined for an effort of 1:41.22 to secure the top spot. Lucy Chivers, Ella Callahan, Huddleston and Smith clocked a 1:42.52 for runner-up honors.

NOTES

  • McGrew has a team-best seven individual triumphs.
  • Hall has won the 100 breast three times during the campaign.
  • Middlebury's 219 points scored are the most in a dual meet since accumulating 220 against Springfield during the 2021-22 campaign.

The Panthers hit the road for a conference tri-meet against host Hamilton and #8 Williams on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
