Fast Start Propels #14 Panthers to 8-1 Triumph Over #18 Bowdoin

Lucy Ronda clinched the match with a win at #9.

The 14th-ranked Middlebury women's squash team breezed by #18 Bowdoin on Friday, opening a three-match NESCAC weekend with an 8-1 triumph from the Bostwick Family Squash Center. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Six of the nine results were sweeps in favor of the Panthers.
  • Lindsey Burnham and Madeline Schwarz opened the match with a pair of 3-0 decisions. Burnham tallied an 11-6, 11-3, 11-5 sweep over Darcy Weber atop the ladder, while Madeline Schwarz conceded just nine points across her three-game win at #7 (11-4, 11-3, 11-2).
  • Lillian Showalter battled Amelie Matuch in the longest contest of the match, bouncing back from an opening game loss to take the ensuing three (7-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-6).
  • Middlebury continued to roll, tallying 3-0 decisions to jump ahead 5-0. Aanvi Anand cruised past Eshika Tangri in the #2 slot (11-6, 11-4, 11-3), while Lucy Ronda endured a lengthy opening game to best Mira Karande (12-10, 11-1, 11-5) in the ninth position to clinch the match. The run concluded with an 11-3, 11-4, 11-5 win for Caroline Didden over Cory Spiegel at #8.
  • Clare Collins interrupted the Panther momentum with a 3-1 triumph in the fifth slot.
  • Izzy Ronda and Sabrina Schwarz closed out the NESCAC tilt with victories in the final two matches. The former hung on in a long third game to sweep Kira Gwadry (11-4, 11-6, 13-11), while the latter surrendered just eight points in her final three games against Linley Grosman (10-12, 11-2, 11-5, 11-1).

NOTES

  • Sophia Calise earned a 3-0 triumph in her exhibition match against Ame Hamrahi, punctuated by an 11-0 decision in the final game.
  • The Panthers own a 31-21 advantage in the all-time series against Bowdoin and have won each of the last six showdowns.

Middlebury continues its three-match home weekend against #24 Bates on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
