Hartman & White Lead Charge for Men’s Swimming and Diving Against Bates

Matthew Sonne enjoyed a silver showing in the 200-meter freestyle on Sunday against Bates.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team fell 175.5-114.5 on Sunday against Bates. The squad collected four event victories in the dual meet.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Keith Hartman dominated the freestyle events, earning titles in the 500 and 1,650-yard races. He logged the first Panther victory of the meet in the 1,650, stopping the clock at 16:58.26. Hartman also touched the wall at 4:51.37 for the top spot during the 500.
  • Owen White posted point totals of 231.08 and 266.85 on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, respectively, to sweep the diving portion of the dual meet. Chaz Witter earned 174.38 points during the 1-meter dive and 193.20 in the 3-meter dive to take second in each event.
  • Matthew Sonne tallied a runner-up finish in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:47.16.
  • Hugh Hutchinson claimed second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.77.
  • Andrew Dou earned a share of second place with a time of 21.68 seconds in the 50 free, matching Bates' Eyton Ng. The Panther also claimed runner-up laurels in the 100 fly (51.79).
  • Luke McNamara sat nine-tenths of a second off the winner in the 400-yard individual medley (IM), posting a time of 4:13.35 to finish second.
  • The relay team of Dou, Prin Chantarangkul, Mark Pearcy and Rodin McKenna claimed silver in the 200 freestyle relay with a clocking of 1:24.68, just six-tenths of a second off the victor.
NOTES
  • White logged his third and fourth event titles of the weekend off the diving boards.
  • Hartman earned his first two individual victories of the campaign.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, January 17 on the road against Springfield at noon.
