Men’s Swimming and Diving Claims Six Event Triumphs in Battle With Colby

Paul Shen helped lead the Panthers with two individual triumphs.

The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team earned six event victories in Saturday's 155-136 setback to Colby from the Natatorium. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Paul Shen tallied two individual wins in his first appearance of the season. The Panther touched the wall first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 26.91 and clocked in at 59.13 to claim the 100 breast. 
  • Middlebury dominated on the diving boards. Owen White earned first on the 3-meter board with 248.63 points, while Chaz Witter claimed second by scoring 167.80. White (220.28), Witter (170.33) and Max Willscher (117.45) swept the 1-meter diving podium.
  • The navy and white closed their top finishes by claiming both relay events. The quartet of Andrew Dou, Prin Chantarangkul, Mark Pearcy and Rodin McKenna posted a combined time of 1:24.75 in the 200 free. Luke McNamara, Shen, Andrew Dou and Chantarangkul secured the 200 medley relay title at 1:33.87. 
  • Also earning runner-up finishes were Dou with a time of 21.40 in the 50 free and Cal Hale in the 50 breast (27.68).
  • McNamara clocked a 53.50 for runner-up honors in the 100 back, while Stefanos Salas touched the wall second in the 200 individual medley (54.43). 
  • Closing the silver showings were Matthew Sonne (200 free - 1:46.77) and Keith Hartman (1000 free - 10:06.08).

NOTES

  • Shen now owns six career individual victories after claiming four a campaign ago.
  • White earns his first diving triumphs of the season.

Middlebury closes its weekend doubleheader against Bates on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
