Sam Concannon Joins Women’s Tennis Program As Assistant Coach

Concannon joins the program from Washington & Lee University.

Middlebury has announced the hiring of Sam Concannon as the assistant women's tennis coach. Concannon joins the Panthers after serving as the assistant men's tennis coach at Washington & Lee University last season.

"We're excited to welcome Sam to the Middlebury women's tennis program," said head coach Olivia Leavitt. "Sam brings a high-level background in Division III tennis. His in-depth knowledge of the game, combined with his commitment to player development and fostering strong relationships, aligns perfectly with the core values of our program. I'm confident Sam will have an immediate impact and be a tremendous asset to our student-athletes and coaching staff."

"I am extremely excited and honored to be the next women's tennis assistant at Middlebury," said Concannon. "I am thrilled to contribute to a program with such a strong tradition of excellence, and help support and develop student-athletes both on and off the court."

In his lone season with the Generals, Concannon helped lead the squad to a 16-7 record and a 9-0 mark in conference action. The program finished 18th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings. In his role, Concannon was also responsible for all recruiting, individual player development and management of the team's social media pages.

Before heading to Virginia, Concannon spent three years as a professional tennis coach at Transformative Tennis Academy. He was responsible for planning practices, tournament schedules, individual development and college tennis placement. He learned alongside Rene Moller, who was the former tennis coach of professional players John Isner and Martina Hingis.

Concannon graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance. A three-year member of the Spartans' men's tennis team, Concannon posted a 67-22 career record in singles play and was a two-time All-University Athletic Association honoree. In high school, he was the 2014 Indiana High School Athletic Association runner-up before capturing the state crown in 2015.
