Gunnar Teigen Joins Middlebury Swimming & Diving Staff As Assistant Coach

Teigen joins the Panthers after 11 years as an assistant at Carleton College.

Middlebury has announced Gunnar Teigen as the assistant men's and women's swimming and diving coach. Teigen joins the program after spending the last 11 years in the same capacity at Carleton College.

"We are thrilled to add Gunnar to our swim and dive coaching staff and family," said head coach Bob Rueppel. "His extensive coaching background at both the collegiate and club level will be a huge asset. Gunnar is a perfect fit for Middlebury, and I look forward to working with him."

"Thank you to Bob Rueppel for bringing me on as the next assistant swimming and diving coach at Middlebury College," said Teigen. This is a massive step for me as a coach to join such a prestigious program and conference, and I'm excited to soak it all in. I have already met a lot of great people in this community, and I am super excited for the months and seasons ahead."

During his time with the Knights, Teigen was directly involved in developing the program's collegiate season training regimen and video analysis of strokes and techniques. He was also involved in the recruitment process, identifying and contacting prospective student-athletes.

While at Carleton, Teigen served as the head age-group coach at the South Metro Storm Swim Club. He primarily worked with the junior group athletes and served as the meet director for home events. Teigen also provided recertification for coaches for lifeguarding or Safety Training for Swim Coaches (STSC).

Teigen was the head coach of the Northfield Swim Club from 2013-2019. In that role, he was tasked with multiple objectives, including overseeing different age groups and collaborating with the board of directors on numerous projects, including fundraising and setting up policies for all club members.

Teigen graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications studies and a minor in coaching. He swam four years in the distance events for the Gusties and served as team captain during his senior season.
