Jeff Brown Reflects on Middlebury Career

Jeff Brown, the Middlebury Russell L. Reilly Head Coach of Men's Basketball, officially retires on Monday, June 30, 2025 as announced by Director of Athletics Erin Quinn announced on Monday, February 24. In the video above, Brown reflects on his 28 seasons at the helm of the program. The transcript from the video, as well as a photo gallery are shared below.

Reflecting on my career at Middlebury College, I am grateful for the many student-athletes that I had the opportunity to serve. We were connected by our shared passion for the game of basketball and our team. The games, practices, bus rides and hotels provided us space to learn and grow together.

They say that the people make the place, and that has been the case for me. I love the connection that our team members have forged with our basketball Alumni. It is truly a brotherhood.

I value the relationships with the many assistant coaches that I had throughout my tenure at Middlebury. They were professional, knowledgeable and played a major role in running a successful program with a championship mindset.

I was also often amazed with how much our team contributed to our community and in return the support we received from the community on game day.

In the book College Sports Traditions by Stan Beck and Jack Wilkinson, Picking up Butch was cited as one of the best sports traditions. This tradition lasted over 50 years and was one of the most special experiences I was able to be a part of.

I have appreciated being a member of the Athletics Department at Middlebury that has a great culture and strong values. I enjoyed being surrounded by talented supportive colleagues.

While my time at Middlebury as the head basketball coach has come to a close, I am excited for the next chapter. One that will undoubtedly include being a fan in the stands in Pepin Gymnasium on game day.
