Middlebury head alpine skiing coach
Stever Bartlett has stepped down from the helm of the program to pursue a private coaching opportunity, Director of Athletics Erin Quinn '86 announced on Monday, June 16. Bartlett's last day will be August 3.
Â
"I have decided to step down as the head alpine skiing coach at Middlebury," said Bartlett. "My time has been incredibly rewarding, and I've had the privilege of working with outstanding student-athletes and being part of a program with such a rich skiing tradition. This new opportunity will allow me to pursue different coaching challenges while remaining connected to the sport about which I'm passionate."
Â
Quinn described Bartlett as "an amazing member of the Middlebury Athletics family for nearly two decades. His work ethic and care for his program and student-athletes has been exemplary. Stever has assisted the department in many ways outside of skiing over the years, including coaching junior varsity soccer and serving as the director of the fitness center. He has overseen a first-class alpine ski program and will be missed by the ski community, Middlebury Athletics, and Middlebury College."
Â
During his time in Vermont, Bartlett established himself as one of the premier alpine coaches in collegiate skiing. He was named the 2020 United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association (USCSCA) National Alpine Coach of the Year and the Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association (EISA) Alpine Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2025. Under his leadership, the Panthers consistently competed at the highest levels, finishing in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships an impressive 15 times. He coached numerous All-Americans and EISA champions, and developed skiers who went on to have successful World Cup and Olympic careers.Â
Â
He is recognized as a respected voice in the alpine ski racing world and a leading advocate for continuing the development of student-athletes in college, giving them opportunities to move on to international competition.Â
Â
Before joining the Panthers, Bartlett brought extensive international coaching experience, working during a four-year stretch as a coach for the United States Ski Team. His résumé includes serving as Europa Cup head coach and as a World Cup assistant coach for the alpine women''s team at the 2006 Torino Winter Olympic Games.Â
Â
Middlebury will announce plans to name the next head alpine skiing coach once that information becomes available.
