Farhat & Raman Garner Major ITA Honors

Farhat and Raman each tallied honors from the ITA.

Nina Farhat and Sahana Raman of the fifth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis squad earned major Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) honors. Farhat was named the Most Improved Player across Division III, while Raman was awarded the Northeast's Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.

HONOREE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Farhat (ITA Most Improved Player)
    • Farhat is the first player in program history to receive the honor since the organization gave the initial award in 2015.
    • The Panther owns a 24-3 mark in singles action, while posting a 14-4 record during dual match play.
    • Farhat clinched Middlebury's first NESCAC Title with a thrilling three-set (1-6, 6-1, 6-4) triumph against Wesleyan's Lucinda Gatsiounis in the sixth spot.
    • During doubles play, the senior tallied All-NESCAC First Team honors alongside Raman after tallying 27 total victories throughout the year, including a 17-2 record as the Panthers' top duo.
    • Over her four seasons, Farhat has tallied a 45-10 mark in singles and 69 doubles victories.
  • Raman (Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award)
    • Raman joins Leah Kepping '13 among Middlebury players to garner the regional accolade.
    • The award, which was first given out in 1986, is presented to men's and women's national student-athletes who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular, and tennis achievements.
    • The Panther became the fifth player in program history to tally NESCAC Player of the Year honors.
    • Raman grabbed her fourth-straight all-league first team accolade in singles, posting a 24-4 record, including 13 victories during the spring season at #1.
    • She was also tabbed to the All-NESCAC First Team Doubles squad with Farhat and has 30 wins in tandem play.
    • The Panther owns an 84-29 career mark in singles play, which is believed to be a program record. Raman is also four doubles victories away from being the first player in program history to reach 100 in a Panther uniform.

Farhat and Raman travel to California for the NCAA Individual Championships that begin on Saturday, May 24, from the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The pair competes in doubles action, while Raman also earned a spot in the singles bracket.
