#25 Middlebury Posts Strong Third-Round Performance at Nationals

Politano tied for the team low in the second round with a 74.
The #25 Middlebury women's golf team continued its strong performance at the NCAA Championship on Thursday, finishing the second and third rounds. The Panthers made the top-15 team cut to move on to the second half of the tournament and sit in third place with a score of 895. Emory climbed into first during the second round and leads the field with an 875, while Carnegie Mellon jumped into second during the third day and boasts an 888.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • After finishing in the top-five spots in the opening round, Audrey Tir and Ella Han continue to lead Middlebury. Tir currently sits in a two-way tie for fourth place with a combined 217, which is just three strokes behind the top golfer. The Panther carded a two-under-par in the opening round, followed by a 74 and a 73, respectively.
  • Only three strokes back, Han is among a trio of golfers in ninth place with a 220. She shot a 71 in the opening round and a one-over-par to close out the third day.
  • On Thursday, Morgan Lee shined, carding a 73 which is her best of the tournament thus far. The Panther sits in a multi-way tie for 26th place with a 225.
  • The second round was highlighted by a stellar performance from Mia Politano as she tied for the team low with a 74. 
  • Rounding out the group, Elizabeth Whalen carded a pair of 80s in the second and third rounds on Thursday.
NOTES
  • Politano's 74 in the second round is a career low.
  • Middlebury is making its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the first since 2013.  
The Panthers seek to take home the national championship as the competition concludes with the fourth and final round on Friday.
