The Middlebury women's golf team dominated the opening day of the NCAA Championship, leading the entire field with a 296. The day consisted of torrential rain, delays and standing water, conditions the Panthers have battled throughout this spring. On Wednesday, the field nearly completed the second round, with Middlebury getting through holes 12-15 as Emory finished the course to surge ahead.

The Eagles shot a one-under-par on the second day and sit atop the leaderboard with a score of 586, carding a 287 on the day. The Panthers, who pick up on holes 12-15 on Thursday morning, currently have a 222.Â

HIGHLIGHTS
- Pacing the entire field on opening day, Audrey Tir sat in a two-way tie for first place. The Panther carded a two-under-par 70, highlighted by three birdies and an eagle over 18 holes. In the second round, Tir has carded a pair of birdies through 12.
- Ella Han was phenomenal on day one, sitting tied for third with a 71. She had a trio of birdies, and has tallied par on 10 of 13 holes so far in the second round.
- The third Panther in the opening round was Morgan Lee, recording a score of 76. The junior has played through hole 14 in the second wave, highlighted by a pair of birdies.Â
- Climbing 17 spots on the second day is Mia Politano. She carded four birdies over 14 holes. Politano was the fourth Middlebury golfer in Tuesday's opening 18Â with a 79.
- Rounding out the group in her rookie campaign, Elizabeth Whalen has jumped up three spots. The Panther has a birdie and a trio of pars over 15 holes on day two.Â

- Tir's 70 matches her career low, while Han shaved three strokes off her personal best.
- Middlebury is making its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 2013.Â
The Panthers pick back up in second-round action on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. on the River Course. The top-15 teams advance to the third round, which begins no earlier than 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start.Â
