#3 Women’s Tennis Blanks SUNY New Paltz To Begin NCAA Play

The #3 Middlebury women's tennis team opened NCAA Tournament play with a 4-0 victory over SUNY New Paltz in the second round. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panther tandem of Claudia Miller and Elsie Van Wieren blanked their opponents 6-0 in the second spot, before Nina Farhat and Sahana Raman won by the same score at #1 to secure the doubles point. 
  • Miller carried the momentum into singles, shutting out her opponent in each set to give Middlebury a 2-0 edge.
  • Van Wieren (#2) and Lulu Wu (#4) blanked their opponents 6-0 in the opening set and eased to 6-1 second-set victories to clinch the match at 4-0.
NOTES
  • In doubles, Nathalie van der Reis and Wu were ahead 5-0 in the third slot.
  • At the time the match was clinched, Raman had claimed the initial set 6-1 at #1 and was ahead 3-1 in the second, while Farhat was victorious in her opening game in the fifth spot.
  • The teams met for the first time in women's tennis.
The Panthers play the winner of #13 Johns Hopkins and #14 Babson in the regional final on Sunday at noon, with a trip to the national quarterfinals on the line.
