#7 Men’s Tennis Shuts Out Allegheny In NCAA Second Round

The seventh-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team claimed its sixth-straight victory, shutting out Allegheny 4-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The top pair of Noah Laber and Thehan Wijemanne claimed a 6-3 victory, before Hugh Hentschel and Nikky Kondamuri triumphed 6-2 in the second spot to give the Panthers a 1-0 edge.
  • Neel Epstein shut out his opponent in both sets at #2 singles to give Middlebury a 2-0 lead.
  • In the third slot, Wijemanne cruised 6-1 in his opening set, before claiming a 6-4 win in the second to increase the advantage to 3-0.
  • Hentschel clinched the match for Middlebury, earning identical 6-3 scores in each of his sets for the 4-0 triumph from the fifth spot.
NOTES
  • When doubles finished, the duo of Epstein and Reif Larsen was ahead 5-2 in the third spot.
  • At the time of clinching, Laber had split at #1, while Noah Lewis (#4) and Kondamuri (#6) each claimed their opening sets.
  • This marked the second-straight meeting for Middlebury and Allegheny in the NCAA Tournament and the third overall. The Panthers have claimed each contest, blanking the Gators 5-0 a season ago in the old scoring format. 
The Panthers advance to the regional final and take on the winner between host #10 Johns Hopkins and North Carolina Wesleyan at 12:00 p.m.
