The 19th-ranked Middlebury men's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close in a hard-fought 10-9 loss to #12 St. Lawrence on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.Â
HIGHLIGHTS
- Middlebury came out firing to begin the contest. With 9:32 left in the opener, Russell Thorndike looped around his defender and flipped a quick-stick pass to Cooper DeMallie, who fired a bouncer past St. Lawrence goalie Michael Marinello for a 1-0 edge.
- Billy Curtis pushed the lead to a pair 1:17 later. The Panther grabbed a feed from Jack Gunning and had a crossbody bid that found the right panel.
- The Saints found the scoreboard at the 6:09 mark. Cam Croasdaile drove into traffic with a defender on his hip and bounced a shot past Hayden Kern into the far nylon to make it 2-1.
- Logan White increased the lead to 3-1 with 4:52 remaining in the first, lifting a riser that tucked inside the right corner of the net.
- St. Lawrence rallied in the second stanza, ripping off four unanswered tallies to take a 5-3 advantage into the halftime break. Dan Anderson closed the run via a bouncer off a behind-the-net feed by Jamie Rosenweig at the 1:32 mark.
- The Saints extended their lead to three (6-3) on a goal from Anderson that went just below the crossbar just 39 ticks into the second half.
- Middlebury's offense came alive, started by a Finn McCarthy goal that tucked into the bottom-right corner. That tally swelled into a 5-1 run over the final 13:13 to give the Panthers an 8-7 edge heading into the final stanza.
- St. Lawrence grabbed a one-goal advantage (9-8) with back-to-back tallies from Croasdaile and a give-and-go by Bobby Wells and Sam Smith.Â
- The Panthers knotted the contest at nine apiece at the 2:25 mark. Logan White muscled around a Saint defender and fired a shot that snuck in the top-right corner.
- St. Lawrence scored the golden goal with 48 ticks remaining off the stick of Wells, who scooped up a loose ball and buried it in the left panel.
- Middlebury won the ensuing faceoff but could not get a clean shot off as the Saints held on for the 10-9 victory.Â

- Curtis, DeMallie and White each had two goals for the Panthers.
- Kern made nine saves in his 60th career game.
- It was just the second time that Middlebury and St. Lawrence met in the NCAA Tournament.
The Panthers finish their 2025 campaign with a 9-9 record, marking the ninth time in the last 10 seasons that Middlebury has finished with a .500 or better mark.
