Men’s Track and Field Competes At Amherst Spring Fling

Joey Caspar was a member of the 4x400m relay team that finished in first place.
The Middlebury men's track and field team competed at the Amherst Spring Fling, picking up four season-best efforts during the meet.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Dave Filias won the hammer throw with a season-long distance of 55.30 meters. Dan Urchuk joined Filias in the top ten, recording a toss of 48.96m for sixth.
  • Middlebury claimed the top-three spots in the 400 hurdles. Xander Swann was the first runner across the line with a victorious time of 53.02 seconds, while Joey Caspar (56.59) and Nate Gardner (57.65) finished second and third.
  • The Panthers had two entries that claimed strong showings in the javelin. Caleb Smith earned fifth with a toss of 47.30m, while Ben Martin was ninth at 40.75m.
  • In the 110m hurdles, Middlebury tallied the top-two results. Finn Albright won the event (15.72) and Jefferson Hill was right behind in second (15.84).
  • In the triple jump, Sam Opawuyi grabbed gold with a distance of 13.42m, while Tony Wang finished third with his season-best leap of 13.24m. Gardner claimed seventh place, hitting the sand at 12.14m.
  • Middlebury had its 4x400m relay team of Emerson Kington, Hayden Bobowick, Caspar, and Swann finish in first place with a season-best time of 3:22.22.
  • The Panthers picked up three top-10 finishes in the 400m. Kington grabbed fourth place (49.31), while Bobowick (50.55) and Sebastian Pantzer (50.56) were eighth and ninth, respectively.
  • Logan Cosgrove got silver in the shot put with a distance of 14.04m, while Urchuk grabbed bronze at 13.52m. Joining them in the top-10 were Calvin Szoradi (12.70) and Filias (12.54) in sixth and eighth.
  • The Panthers had three entries in the pole vault. Tyler Drummey, Caden Cote, and Smith finished fourth, sixth, and seventh with each competitor clearing 4.00 meters.
  • Urchuk (40.65m) finished third in the discus, Martin (38.01m) was sixth, and Cosgrove finished in 10th with a distance of 36.10m.

  • Hill's time in the 110 hurdles was a season-best.
