#14 Men’s Tennis Sweeps Trinity 7-0 To Cap Regular Season

The #14 Middlebury men's tennis team swept Trinity on Sunday to wrap up its regular season. Prior to the match, the Panthers honored seniors Neel Epstein and Noah Laber.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The hosts grabbed the first point with a pair of victories in doubles action. Epstein and Reif Larsen shut out their opponents out 6-0 at #3, while Laber and Thehan Wijemanne defeated the Bantam tandem 6-3 in the top spot to get the 1-0 lead.
  • To close out doubles action, Hugh Hentschel and Nikky Kondamuri won 6-3 in the second slot.
  • During singles in the top spot, Laber defeated Luca Garbati 6-2, 6-2, before Larsen made it a 3-0 lead for Middlebury with a 6-4, 6-1 win at #5.
  • Kondamuri clinched the match by defeating Marcus Carlsson 6-2, 6-4 in the sixth spot.
  • Hentschel won a tough 6-3, 7-5 decision at #4 for a 5-0 advantage. 
  • Middlebury continued to extend its lead when Epstein won 6-1, 6-3 in the second slot, while Wijemanne bested Andrew Nelson 6-4, 6-4 to give the Panthers the 7-0 victory.
NOTES
  • Epstein notched his 75th career victory, while Laber recorded his 60th career singles win.
  • The Panthers have won 19-consecutive matchups dating back to 2004.
  • The programs met for the 27th time with Middlebury owning a 21-6 advantage.
The Panthers return to action next weekend when they compete in the NESCAC Tournament. The seedings and matchups will be announced in the upcoming days by the conference office.
