Panthers Move Up One Spot On Final Day of NESCAC Championship

Maykel paced the Panthers and finished in a tie for second.
The Middlebury men's golf team moved up one spot on the final day of the NESCAC Championship, finishing in fifth place. The Panthers posted a score total of 922 over the three-day competition. Amherst won the team title with an 896, while Trinity was right behind (899) and Hamilton (903) completed the top-three teams.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Brendan Maykel led the way for Middlebury on Sunday. The Panther moved up 15 spots with an even-par 71 to finish in a four-way tie for runner-up honors. Maykel's total of 222 (75-76-71) was just five strokes behind the medalist.
  • The second Middlebury scorer was Henry Harrison who was deadlocked with seven others for eighth. Harrison shot a one-over-par on the opening day, finishing with a three-day score of 226.
  • Paul Fine-Lease climbed four spots on Sunday to tie with teammate Bradshaw Underhill with a 242, which was good for 39th. Fine-Lease's best round was on Friday with a 78, while Underhill shined on Saturday with a 76.
  • Right behind the duo was Charlie Schulman who rounded out the scorers. Schulman finished in 42nd place with a 244, highlighted by carding a 77 in the first round. 
NOTES 
  • Maykel's 71 on Sunday was a personal-low round, marking the second week in a row that he lowered his own collegiate best.
  • This is the first year the NESCAC Golf Championship has expanded to a three-day 54-hole tournament.
Middlebury will await its NCAA Tournament fate when the field is announced on Monday, May 12.
