Men’s Track & Field Competes At Pair of Meets Over Weekend

Kington tallied a trio of top-five finishes.
The Middlebury men's track and field team competed at meets hosted by Smith and the University of Massachusetts. 
 
CARLA COFFEY INVITE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Kicking off the weekend at the Carla Coffey Invitational, Andreas Panagos finished eighth in the hammer throw with a launch of 38.26 meters. 
  • Middlebury had a pair of athletes finish in the top-three in the decathlon. Caleb Smith led the way, claiming the event with 6,231 points. He won the 100-meter, high jump, long jump, pole vault and javelin. Smith's shot put mark of 12.66m was a personal best.
  • Quinn Kennedy finished in third in the decathlon, highlighted by triumphs in the discus and shot to accumulate 5,997 points. The Panther set personal record marks in nine of the 10 events and his overall point total. 
JULIE LAFRENIERE COMMONWEALTH INVITE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Xander Swann had a banner day for Middlebury, claiming the 400 with a clocking of 48.78 seconds. Emerson Kington was fifth with a time of 49.07 seconds. Swann also broke the tape in the 400 hurdles, recording a winning time of 53.05 seconds. Swann closed his day by pairing up with Kington, Hayden Bobowick, and Joseph Caspar in the 4x400 relay, combined for a third-place showing of 3:18.74. 
  • The other event winner of the day was Dave Filias in the hammer throw, launching the implement a distance of 60.37m. 
  • Bobowick and Kington joined Marco Motroni and Donnell Harvey Jr. in the 4x100 relay, as the squad earned runner-up laurels with a time of 42.12 seconds.
  • Leading a trio of Panthers in the 110 hurdles was Finn Albright, placing second with a clocking of 15 seconds flat. Jefferson Hill was next in sixth (15.60), followed by Parker Loupessis in eighth (15.67).
  • Drew Donahue earned runner-up distinction in the 5,000 (14:36.97), while Ziggy Goddard claimed fourth (14:48.44).
  • Earning a pair of third-place honors in the jumps was Sam McGarrahan. He cleared the bar at 1.85m in the high jump, before hitting the sand at 6.89m in the long jump. Tony Wang also cracked the top-10 in the latter event, recording a mark of 6.43m for ninth.
  • In the steeplechase, Solomon McDow finished fifth with a time of 9:39.32.
  • Three Panthers garnered sixth-place finishes. Motroni clocked in at 10.70 seconds in the 100, Nathaniel Gardner finished with a personal best 55.28 seconds in the 400 hurdles and Lachlan Bishop stopped the clock in 1:55.58 in the 800.
  • Other top-10 finishes came from Dan Urchuk in the shot put (seventh - 14.56m) and Sam Opawuyi in the triple jump (ninth - 13.59m).  
The squad hosts the Middlebury Invitational and Senior Day on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
