Middlebury Drops 6-2 Decision At Union

The Middlebury baseball team dropped a 6-2 decision at Union on Tuesday during non-conference action.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Garnet Chargers came out swinging as Caleb Miller blasted a two-run roundtripper in the bottom of the first. Later on with two outs, Sam Strazza crossed the plate on a double from Noah NiCaprio for a 3-0 lead.
  • The Panthers manufactured one run in the top of the fourth to slice the advantage to 3-1. Carter Chi reached on an error, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and later scampered home when Aidan Han walked.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Union tacked on a pair of tallies. Miller touched the plate on a throwing error, before a two-base knock from AJ Cutler drove in Dylan Swarts to make it 5-1.
  • Middlebury took advantage of several miscues by the Garnet Chargers in the top of the sixth, as Joe Basso cut the deficit to three (5-2) with an unearned run.
  • Strazza brought home Swartz in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to seal the 6-2 win for Union.
NOTES
  • Han tallied two hits for the Panthers.
  • The programs played for the 87th time in a series that began in 1890.
The Panthers return home for the weekend, hosting a three-game series with Wesleyan beginning on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
