The Middlebury baseball team scored eight runs over its final two at-bats, turning a 1-1 contest into a 9-3 triumph over Colby-Sawyer. The contest marked the home opener for the Panthers.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The hosts struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Will Ashley reached on an error, stole second base and moved to third on a groundout. Two batters later, Ashley raced home to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Joe Basso for a 1-0 lead.
- Middlebury tried to mount a rally in the fifth. Brayden Mathews and Anthony Pellagrini drew walks and moved up a base on a wild pitch, but Charger starting pitcher Zach Rogers induced a flyout to get out of the jam.
- Colby-Sawyer took advantage of a pair of wild pitches in the seventh as Sean Roeger scampered home to knot the game at 1-1.
- The Panthers exploded for six runs on five hits in the home half of the frame. The big hits in the decisive rally came from Kyle McCausland, who roped a two-run double that one-hopped the wall in right, followed by a single down the left-field line by Ashley that plated Pellagini and McCausland for a 5-1 advantage.
- Later in the inning, Ben Slaughter laced a single to drive in Ashley, and Basso bounced a run-scoring base knock up the middle to make it a 7-1 game.
- The Chargers sliced the deficit to four (7-3) in the top of the eighth on a pair of RBI singles from Evan Dennis and Cooper O'Brien.
- Middlebury regained the six-run lead in the bottom of the inning on a single by McCausland that plugged the right-center field gap to bring home Mathews who walked and Pellagrini who singled for a 9-3 advantage.
- Colby-Sawyer had runners on first and second in their final at-bat, but Pellagrini got Jared Schmitt to fly out to right and secure the Panthers a 6-3 victory.
NOTES
- Ashley collected a career-high three stolen bases, while Mathews swiped a career-best two.
- McCausland, Ashley and Mathews each finished with multi-hit performances, while Pellagrini, Ashley and Mathews all scored twice in the win.
- Owen McCandless picked up his initial career triumph in relief.
- The programs played for the first time since 2003 and the 10th time overall with the Panthers holding a 7-3 lead in the series.
Middlebury returns to action on Saturday when it plays at Rutgers-Newark with the first pitch of the single game slated for 12:00 p.m.
