Middlebury Caps Spring Break At Aztec Invitational

Urchuk had a trio of top-10 finishes in the throwing events.
The Middlebury men's track and field capped its spring break trip at the Aztec Invitational. The two-day event was hosted by San Diego State University and featured several personal best performances. 

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Ziggy Goddard clocked the second-best time in the 3,000 steeplechase, stopping the clock at 9:24.20. Frederick Alfonso-Frank earned fourth in the event with a time of 10:17.29.
  • Sam McGarrahan claimed third in the long jump, hitting the same at a mark of 6.54 meters. The Panther also finished sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.82m.
  • In the 4x100 relay, Marco Motroni, Donnell Harvey Jr., Aidan Castanon and Emerson Kington claimed fourth with a time of 41.94. That time was six-hundredths off the program record.
  • Also earning fourth place was Sam Opawuyi, pacing a trio of top-10 finishers in the triple jump. Opawuyi recorded a school-record mark of 13.93m, followed by Tony Wang in seventh (12.57m) and Santi Canella in eighth (12.26m). 
  • Caden Cote finished fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.02m, while Robert Altavilla was one spot behind with a personal record mark of 3.87m.
  • Middlebury had two entries clock personal bests in the 1,500. Drew Donahue stopped the clock at 3:52.03 for fifth place, while Zach Utz was exactly three seconds behind in ninth (3:55.03).
  • The Panthers had three entries claim top-10 placings in the hammer throw. Dan Urchuk led the three with a throw of 52.56 meters for sixth. Dave Filias (52.16) and Darnel Cineas (50.22) finished seventh and 10th, respectively. Urchuk also led a group in the shot put, finishing eighth with a launch of 15.23m. Logan Cosgrove cracked the top-10 with a personal best mark of 14.26m. Urchuk capped the weekend with a 10th-place effort in the discus (44.50m), which was the final event of the invite. 
  • Finn Albright earned eighth in the 110 hurdles, clocking a personal-best 15.49. Quinn Kennedy was two spots back, crossing the line at 15.63.
  • In the 800, Will Lavey finished in eighth with a clocking of 1:55.13, while Lachlan Bishop was right behind in ninth (1:55.21).
NOTES
  • Cineas and Urchuk each posted career-best showings in the hammer throw.
The Panthers are idle until April 5 when they travel to Massachusetts for the Amherst Spring Fling.
