#6 Panthers Upset 5-2 By #18 Babson

The sixth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team fell behind after doubles action and was unable to recover as #18 Babson upset the squad 5-2.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Beavers claimed a tight 6-4 win at the top of the lineup, but tandem Noah Lewis and Julian Wu cruised to a 6-1 victory at #3.
  • Hugh Hentschel and Thehan Wijemanne battled Babson duo Brady Anderson and Sebastian Mendoza to the very end in the middle spot, eventually being edged 7-5 in the tiebreaker as the Beavers took the point and a 1-0 edge.
  • Babson carried its momentum into singles action, capturing straight-set wins at #5, #6 and #3 to take a 4-0 lead and clinch the match.
  • Middlebury would not back down, as Noah Laber claimed a superbreaker (10-5) to earn a point in the second spot.
  • Wu dropped his opening set at #1 but came back to claim 6-1 and 6-0 triumphs to make it 4-2.
  • The Beavers claimed a 7-5, 6-4 win in the fourth spot for the final 5-2 tally and the upset of the Panthers. 
NOTES
  • The programs played for the third time, with Babson claiming its first win over Middlebury. 
The Panthers look to bounce back on Tuesday, traveling to #1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for an 8:00 p.m. ET start.
