Goddard’s All-American Finish Paces Panthers On Second Day Of Nationals

Goddard earned All-American honors in the mile.
The Middlebury men's track and field team wrapped up competition at the two-day NCAA Championships on Saturday. The Panther distance medley relay (DMR) earned second-team All-American honors on Friday evening, while Ziggy Goddard landed on the first team on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Goddard ran fairly even splits for each lap around the track during the mile, moving up one spot on the final stretch to secure eighth place with a time of 4:11.98.
  • Sam McGarrahan finished in 18th in his debut at the championship. The Panther sailed over the bar at 1.95 meters, but bowed out at the next height (2.00m). 
  • In the hepthathlon, Caleb Smith was in 11th place after day one and moved up to 10th with one event to go, but was unable to start the 1,000-meters. He tallied a trio of top-10 event finishes, earning the most points in the 60 dash (802 points), while garnering his highest effort in the pole vault in seventh (4.10m). 
NOTES  The rest of the Middlebury team is in California starting the outdoor season at the Ross and Sharon Invitational hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University.
