Donnell Harvey Jr claimed 14th in the 60 meter dash.
The Middlebury men's track and field team competed on the first day of the NCAA Indoor Championships hosted by Nazareth University from the Golisano Training Center. Each of the Panther representatives was in action on the initial day.
HIGHLIGHTS
- In the final event of the opener, the distance medley relay (DMR) quartet composed of Zach Utz, Emerson Kington, Will Lavey and Drew Donahue took to the track. The team clocked a time of 10:02.88 to claim 10th in the results. After the protest period, Wartburg was disqualified, moving the Panthers to ninth overall.
- In the mile, Ziggy Goddard ran in the faster of the two heats. He kicked it into overdrive with a split of 28.89 seconds over the final 200 meters to cross the line with an effort of 4:10.83.
- Goddard's time was the ninth fastest of the 20 competitors, pushing him into Saturday's final.
- Caleb Smith made his indoor debut in the heptathlon. Through four events, Smith sits in 11th place with 2,738 points.
- The Panther claimed a pair of top-10 finishes, headlined by a ninth-place effort in the 60m hurdles (7.23).
- Donnell Harvey Jr. represented Middlebury in the 60-meter dash. The rookie, who entered the championship seeded 15th, clocked a time of 6.83 seconds for 14th. His time was just sixth one-hundredths out of the final qualifying spot.
NOTES
- Goddard's mile time shattered his collegiate-best time of 4:11.31 clocked during the Tufts Final Qualifier on March 8.
- Based on his performance, Harvey Jr. earns Second Team All-American distinction.
Smith looks to climb the heptathlon leaderboard with the final three events scheduled throughout the final day of competition on Saturday. He will compete in the 60 hurdles at 10:00 a.m., followed by the pole vault (11:20 a.m.) and 1,000 (4:45 p.m.). Sam McGarrahan will also compete in the high jump, while Goddard hits the track for the mile final at 4:00 p.m.
