Jamin’s OT Game-Winner Lifts #18 Men’s Lacrosse Past Union 12-11

Patrick Jamin scored with 1:56 left in Tuesday's overtime, leading the #18 Middlebury men's lacrosse team to a 12-11 victory over Union in a back-and-forth contest. Seven different Panthers tallied a goal in the triumph.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Garnet Chargers opened the scoring 1:19 into the first quarter when Peter Kip slotted his bid from 15 yards out into the bottom-left corner for a 1-0 lead.
  • Middlebury answered less than two minutes later as Cooper DeMallie dodged from the right side and fired a shot inside the left post.
  • Union regained the lead with 4:50 expired. Mekhi Taylor ripped a bid from 15 yards that found space over the shoulder of Panther goalie Hayden Kern to make it 2-1.
  • The hosts knotted the contest at 2-2 six minutes later when Jamin split a pair of defenders, sending a rising ball into the right side of the net.
  • The Garnet Chargers took a 3-2 advantage with 1:08 elapsed in the second stanza. Archie McEvoy tallied a quick-stick marker on a nifty pass from behind the crease by Walker Popko.
  • Middlebury recorded three of the next four goals, highlighted by a player-up tally by Nick Marvin, for a 5-4 edge with 4:50 left.
  • Union responded 32 seconds later when Finbar Holland scored on a turnaround shot to deadlock the game at 5-5 heading into halftime.
  • Following the break, tallies by Taylor and McEvoy gave the Garnet Chargers a 7-5 advantage with 11:38 left.
  • The Panthers pulled to within one (7-6) when Henry Tarr scooped up a ground ball just outside the Middlebury crease before racing the length of the field and tickling the nylon exactly one minute later.
  • Union's Emmett Lyne pushed the lead back to a pair (8-6) on a shot that found the bottom portion of the goal with 8:11 left in the third.
  • Tallies by DeMallie and Jamin brought Middlebury back to even (8-8) after three quarters of action.
  • The visitors posted the initial two goals of the fourth frame before the Panthers rattled off three-consecutive markers, grabbing an 11-10 advantage on a score from Logan White with 3:59 remaining in regulation.
  • The Garnet Chargers tied the contest (11-11) when Taylor completed his hat trick at the 2:10 mark.
  • Union claimed the ensuing faceoff and held for a potential game-winning shot, but Kern notched a pair of saves during that stretch including one with his foot to send the contest to overtime.
  • The teams traded turnovers to begin the extra stanza before Jamin collected a stick-to-stick pass from Will Spehr and rocketed his shot into the upper-right corner for the 12-11 final score.
NOTES
  • Jamin and Marvin each finished with their first career hat tricks in the triumph.
  • Kern posted 15 saves in the win, including six in the fourth quarter. His output marks the fourth time this season and the 29th in his career he has had a double-digit save total.
  • The programs played for the 57th time with Middlebury owning a 37-20 advantage in the all-time series.
The Panthers jump back to NESCAC play with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Bates on Saturday.
