Four School Records Fall at the TRACK At New Balance

Drew Donahue beat his own program record in the 3,000.
The Middlebury men's track and field team broke four program records en route to a fourth-place finish at the Division III Indoor New England Championships. Amherst claimed the crown with 109 points, while Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (92 points), Tufts (82 points) and the Panthers (70.33 points) rounded out the top-four squads.  
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Dan Urchuk broke the school record in the shot put with a fifth-place toss of 15.51 meters. The previous mark of 15.17m was set in 2020. Dave Filias also finished in the top-10 spots, placing ninth with a heave of 14.64m. The duo also recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in the weight throw. Filias earned seventh (16.02m), while Urchuk was ninth (15.71m).
  • In the 60-meter dash preliminaries on Friday, Donnell Harvey Jr. finished with a time of 6.83 seconds, surpassing the previous school mark of 6.90 from 2024. He would go on to finish fourth in Saturday's championship final.
  • Crossing the finish line first in the 3,000 was Drew Donahue with a school-record clocking of 8:15.73. Donahue set the program record in the event back in 2022 with a time of 8:18.21
  • In the high jump, Sam McGarrahan smashed the program mark, finishing in third place at a height of 2.05m. The previous clearance of 1.98m set by McGarrahan earlier this season at the Middlebury Winter Classic.
  • The group of Lachlan Bishop, Charlie Kessler, Jack Ulrich, and Cameron Miles picked up a fifth-place finish at 7:47.75 in the 4x800.
  • Caleb Smith grabbed first in the heptathlon with 4,830 points. The Panther claimed the long jump, shot put and high jump to help earn the title.
  • The quartet of Zach Utz, Will Lavey, Ziggy Goddard and Donahue completed the Distance Medley Relay with a top time of 10:03.92.
  • Miles claimed silver in the 1,000, finishing with a personal best clocking of 2:28.13.
  • In the 4x400, Xander Swann, Emerson Kington, Joey Caspar and Sebastian Pantzer grabbed ninth in 3:20.95.
  • Caspar (1:21.66), Bishop (1:22.47) and Kessler (1:23.77) all collected personal records in the 600. Caspar led the group with a 10th-place finish.
  • In the 400, Swann (48.16), Kington (48.51) and Hayden Bobowick (50.24) recorded career-best times as Swann finished in third place.
  • In the pole vault, Henry Ericson finished in a three-way tie for eighth place, clearing the bar at 4.44m. 
Middlebury will send select competitors back to Massachusetts next weekend for two meets., Select Panthers will be competing at the Open New England Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center, while others head to the Tufts University Qualifying Meet.
