Jack Undercofler helped the Panthers to a relay program record alongside a top-eight individual finish in the 100 backstroke.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team kept the record book shuffling going on Saturday, setting two program marks on day three of the NESCAC Swimming & Diving Championships from the Natatorium. Williams leads the way in the team standings with 1,371.5 points, followed by Tufts (1,076) and Amherst (922.5). Middlebury rose to fourth with 721 points.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Panthers kicked off the evening session with a program record in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Jack Undercofler, Paul Shen, Andrew Dou and Prin Chantarangkul swam a combined time of 1:30.77 to earn seventh overall. That mark is over a second faster than the 1:31.89 set during the 2023 championships.
- Luke McNamara continued his impressive weekend, claiming the second-fastest preliminary time (3:58.47) in the 400 individual medley (IM) to clinch a spot in the championship final. That time broke the program record of 3:59.83 set by Jean-Paul Gowdy in 1999. McNamara went on to claim runner-up honors in the final with a time of 3:58.49.
- Stefanos Salas joined McNamara in the 400 IM final, touching the wall at 4:07.20 for eighth overall.
- In the 100-yard breaststroke, John Masiello clocked an NCAA 'B' cut time of 55.22 in the prelims and Shen touched the wall at 55.41 to claim spots in the championship swim. Masiello posted a clocking of 55.27 for seventh overall with Shen right behind (55.39) in eighth.
- Shifting to the 100 backstroke, Samuel Hughes and Undercofler represented Middlebury in the final. Hughes finished just off the podium with a 49.29 while Undercofler clocked a 50.01 for sixth.
- Owen White made the 3-meter diving finals, scoring 320.80 points for eighth overall.
- Two Panthers swam in the consolation final of the 200 freestyle. Matthew Hensel shaved four-tenths of a second off his preliminary time to grab 10th (1:41.33) while Ryan Mauney claimed 16th (1:42.60).
- Pierce Bigelow earned 13th in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:35.94.Â

- McNamara claimed his second program record of the weekend after writing his name at the top of the 200 IM times in Panther history on Friday.
- The Tufts quartet of Eric Lundgren, Emmett Adams, Armaan Sikka and Soeren Euvrard swam a 1:26.82 to claim a conference mark in the 200 medley relay.
- Connecticut College's Justin Finkel set a NESCAC and pool record with his winning time of 46.49 in the 100 fly.
- Ryan Nunez of Williams touched the wall in 9:08.20 to set a conference and Natatorium mark in the 1,000 free.
The Panthers wrap up the four-day championship on Sunday with preliminaries beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by the finals at 5:30 p.m.
