Third Period Tallies Push Men’s Hockey To 4-2 Victory Over #11 Hamilton

The Middlebury men's ice hockey team scored three goals in the third period en route to a 4-2 triumph over #11 Hamilton on Saturday night.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Continentals attempted to get on the board 7:09 into the first frame when Luke Tchor sent a shot on the doorstep, but his bid was thwarted by goalie Andrew Heinze.
  • Reece Brednich grabbed the loose puck and fired a shorthanded breakaway that netminder Charlie Archer stopped at the 3:44 mark.
  • Hamilton tried its luck on the power play with a backhand shot in front of the net that Heinze grabbed with 2:18 remaining.
  • Middlebury got on the board with a shorthanded goal at 17:51. Jin Lee grabbed the puck off a Continental and skated into their zone. His shot from between the circles went over Archer's shoulder for a 1-0 Panther lead.
  • Ben Zimmerman tried to tie the contest at 16:12 of the second stanza with a shot on the doorstep, but Heinze dove to make the stop.
  • The Continentals had another power play chance to get on the scoresheet when Jackson Krock shot in front of the net with 7:41 remaining Heinze poked it away with his right pad. 
  • Brednich looked to extend the Panther lead with a shot from the right faceoff dashes at the 6:17 mark, but his bid was saved off Archer's stick.
  • Hamilton knotted the game 4:06 in the final period. Max Bulawka passed to Alex Danis on the doorstep, who ripped a shot over Heinze's right pad to make it a 1-1 game.
  • The Continentals took the lead at the 8:18 mark. James Philpott passed to Tchor in front of the crease. He poked the puck into the net to give Hamilton the 2-1 lead.
  • Middlebury quickly responded at 10:15 when Dante Palombo ripped a one-timer over Archer's blocker to tie the game 2-2.
  • Jackson Morehouse gave the Panthers the lead back with 12:04 expired. He skated into the Continental zone and fired a shot over Archer's right pad for a 3-2 edge.
  • Middlebury manufactured another scoring opportunity with 37 ticks left on the clock. Lee had the initial shot the Archer stopped, but Morehouse collected the rebound and put the puck in the net to give the Panthers the 4-2 win. 
NOTES
  • Morehouse has tallied a point in nine of the last 14 contests with seven goals and ten helpers during that stretch.
  • Brednich had a career-high two assists.
  • Heinze recorded 43 saves in the win.
  • The programs met for the 140th time in the series with Middlebury holding a 92-39-8 advantage.
The Panthers await the upcoming seeding for the NESCAC tournament to be announced tomorrow.
