#25 Women’s Swimming and Diving Caps Regular Season With Middlebury Invite

The Panthers celebrated their 14 seniors on Friday's opening night.

The 25th-ranked Middlebury women's swimming and diving team closed the regular season by hosting its two-day Middlebury Invitational. Anna McGrew had a career outing with three event victories. Before Friday's opening night of action, the Panthers also honored seniors Bella Barragate, Grace Brady, Isabella Caddeau, Emily Fox, Cara Fritz, Chloe Katz, Avery Maxwell, Carly McAdam, Maddy Reid, Asa Stone, Zoe Tray, Kate Wohl and Sage Yenari.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • McGrew initially grabbed the 50-meter backstroke title with a time of 27.10 seconds as part of a one-two finish with teammate Asa Stone (27.92). 
  • In the fastest race of the weekend, McGrew swam a 23.77 for gold in the 50 freestyle, just 0.36 off the program record set in 2018. Avery Maxwell (24.58) and Jane Carey (24.81) claimed second and third, respectively, to sweep the top spots
  • McGrew closed her winning by claiming the 100 free with a time of 51.62 seconds. Teammate Ella Callahan was right behind for silver at 54.30.
  • Caddeau claimed the top spot in the 50 fly by touching the wall at 26.34 seconds.
  • The Panther's final victory of the invite came in the 500 free from Baumgartner, who led wire-to-wire, stopping the clock at 5:07.56 with Courtney Couden right behind (5:09.29)
  • Olivia Schwarz put together a solid showing with two runner-up finishes. She touched the wall at 2:07.31 in the 200 individual medley, before following that up on Saturday with silver in the 200 free (1:54.49).
  • In the 50 breaststroke, Emma Hall swam to second-place honors (30.64).
  • The Panthers tallied runner-up accolades in the 200 medley relay with the quartet of Reid, Hall, Chloe Bautista and McGrew, combining for a time of 1:45.57.
  • In the 200 back, Wohl touched the wall at 2:10.74 with Grace Nadecki following less than a second later with a time of 2:11.18.
  • Grace Brady (2:11.41) and Schwarz (2:11.83) were separated by 0.42 seconds to claim second and third place in the 200 fly.
  • The Panthers closed the meet by notching silver in the 400 free relay with Couden, Yenari, Elise Scott and Callahan combining for a clocking of 3:39.19.

NOTES

  • McGrew now has 12 event victories in her first campaign for Middlebury.
  • Caddeau claimed her initial event triumph of the season.

With their regular season complete, the Panthers look to prepare for the NESCAC Championship hosted by Colby that kicks off on Thursday, February 13.
