#21 Middlebury Secures Two Event Wins at MIT Winter Invitational

Anna McGrew secured her fifth event win of the campaign and her first in the 50-yard freestyle at the MIT Winter Invite.
The #21 Middlebury women's swimming and diving team wrapped up its 2025 slate at the three-day Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Winter Invitational, placing fourth in a competitive field of nine teams with 643 points. Anna McGrew and Mia Cuiffo each collected an individual title over the weekend.
 
RELAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • The squad's top relay finish came in the 400-yard medley relay. Anna McGrew, Emma Hall, Mia Cuiffo and Hannah Baumgartner took home fourth place with a clocking of 3:53.62.
  • The Panther quartet of Grace Nadecki, Isla Johnston, Lauren Jolley and Baumgartner opened the weekend by claiming fifth in the 800 freestyle, clocking in at 7:45.05.
  • Middlebury achieved another impressive relay result when McGrew, Cuiffo, Baumgartner and Nadecki teamed up to secure fifth in the 200 free. Their time of 1:35.83 was just under five-tenths of a second away from third place.
  • The grouping of McGrew, Hall, Cuiffo and Nadecki claimed fifth in the 200 medley, touching the wall in 1:45.26.
  • McGrew, Nadecki, Jolley and Baumgartner rounded out the relay efforts with an eighth-place finish in the 400 free (3:35.57).
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • McGrew headlined the 50 free on Saturday, taking gold for the fifth time this season and the first in the 50-yard event with a time of 23.12. The Panther also earned silver in the 100 free (51.37) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (57.38), finishing just .02 seconds behind the third-place finisher.
  • Cuiffo led the pack in the 100 butterfly on Sunday, touching the wall in 56.03 to earn the second individual event title of her debut campaign.
  • Hall secured silver with a clocking of 2:20.43 in the 200 breaststroke and posted a time of 1:05.20 to take sixth in the 100 breast.
  • Baumgartner stopped the clock at 17:40.04 to claim fourth in the 1,650 free on Friday evening. She added a fifth-place effort in the 500 (5:07.24) and placed eighth in the 200 (1:55.66).
  • Avery Dollard clocked a 2:05.79 in the 200 fly to earn fifth, while Johnston finished seventh in the 1,650 free (17:52.37).
  • Isabel Pentony collected a top-10 placing in the 200 back, earning ninth at 2:08.86.
The Panthers are off for the winter break and holidays, returning to their home pool on Saturday, January 10 to face Colby in the Natatorium at 1:00 p.m.
