Men’s Swimming and Diving Drops Season Opener to Connecticut College

John Masiello helped the Panthers to three podium finishes.

The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team opened its season at Connecticut College on Saturday, falling 213-71.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • John Masiello and Luke McNamara each had runner-up individual finishes. Masiello grabbed runner-up honors in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.92, while McNamara secured silver in the 200 individual medley (2:01.79).
  • The Panthers' third individual top-two finisher came on the diving boards. In his navy and white debut, Chaz Witter scored 161.40 points for second on the 1-meter board.
  • Middlebury also secured silver in the 200 free relay. The quartet of Andrew Dou, Jason Chiappinelli, Rodin McKenna and Masiello combined for a clocking of 1:28.67.
  • In the backstroke events, McKenna touched the wall third in the 100 (56.40) and Matthew Sonne followed with bronze during the 200 with a time of 2:01.53.
  • Closing out the individual top performers were McNamara in the 200 butterfly (third - 1:57.73) and Parker Smith with the third-best clocking of 2:20.63 in the 200 breast.
  • The 200 medley relay squad of Dou, Masiello, McNamara and Chiappinelli grabbed a 1:38.58.

The Panthers continue conference action when they host #20 Amherst on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. from the Natatorium.
