Men’s Track & Field Hosts MNESCI At The TRACK At New Balance

Dave Filias won the weight throw on Sunday.
The Middlebury men's track and field team hosted the Middlebury New England Small College Invitational at The TRACK at New Balance. During the meet, the Panthers recorded six wins and set a school record.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sam McGarrahan was a two-time winner in the jumping disciplines. He tied his school record established last weekend with a winning leap of 6.81 meters in the long jump, while also claiming the high jump at a height of 1.95m.
  • Ziggy Goddard led the field to the finish line with a victorious clocking in the mile (4:14.96), while teammate Drew Donahue was just behind in second place (4:16.11).
  • A few events later in the 60m dash, Marco Motroni leaned across the line first with a time of 6.94, edging Donnell Harvey Jr., who earned a runner-up effort of 6.96.
  • Dave Filias continued his strong indoor season, winning the weight throw with a heave of 16.69m. 
  • The distance medley relay team of Cameron Miles, Will Lavey, Lachlan Bishop and Goddard posted a triumphant time of 10:26.27.
  • Henry Ericson was third with a clearance of 4.70m in the pole vault to set a school record, eclipsing the previous mark of 4.67 set in 2016. 
  • Liam Edson posted a third-place time of 15:34.96 during the meet's longest event in the 5,000.
  • Emerson Kington and Joey Caspar tallied top-five results in the 400, as Kington tallied fourth (50.16) and Caspar was close behind in fifth at 50.30.
  • During the day's last event, the 4x400 relay team of Xander Swann, Kington, Hayden Bobowick and Caspar clocked a fourth-place time of 3:24.59.
  • The Panthers collected numerous fifth-place laurels from Miles in the 800 (1:56.58), Donahue during the 3,000 (8:30.68), Drew McStay in the high jump (1.90m), Dan Urchuk while competing in the weight throw (15.23m) and Caleb Smith in the long jump (6.45m).
NOTES
  • Filias' win in the shot put was his second of the winter season.
  • McGarrahan's victory in the high jump was his third in as many weeks, while he collected his second in the long jump.
The Panthers return to competition on Saturday in the Panther Invitational II hosted by Plymouth State.
