Men’s Swimming and Diving Splits Tri-Meet Against #8 Williams and Hamilton

Jack Undercofler tallied his first event win of the season.

The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team took down Hamilton 168-125 and fell to Williams 201-98 in a tri-meet hosted by the Ephs.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Paul Shen was the lone multi-event winner for the Panthers. He took home the 50-yard breaststroke title with a time of 26.61 seconds, edging Hamilton's Matt Halce by five one-hundredths of a second.
  • Shen also took gold in the 200 breast, touching the wall at 58.51.
  • Middlebury's final event victory came from Jack Undercolfer. The captain stopped the clock in 24.36 seconds for first overall in the 50 backstroke. His time was six one-hundredths faster than runner-up Theo Randall of Williams.
  • Stefanos Salas earned second place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:51.99.
  • Undercofler raced to a bronze showing in the 100 back, clocking in at 53.93 seconds.
  • Samuel Hughes (50 free - 21.60) and Matthew Hensel (100 free - 47.36) each tallied third-place showings.
  • The Panther's final individual podium showing came from Andrew Dou,
  •  who raced to bronze in the 50 butterfly with a time of 23.69.
  • Middlebury opened and closed the tri-meet with third-place outings in the relays. The quartet of Hughes, John Masiello, Dou and Prin Chantarangkul combined for a time of 1:34.86 in the 200 medley. Jason Chiappinelli, Chantarangkul, Hensel and Masiello clocked a 1:26.08 in the 200 free.

  • Shen and Undercolfer each recorded their first event victories of the season.

The Panthers return to the Natatorium for their two-day Middlebury Invitational beginning Friday at 5:30 p.m. Middlebury will honor its seven seniors in a pre-meet ceremony.
